Cirque du Soleil Shows in Vegas

Cirque du Soleil, the world famous company of acrobats, contortionists and fabulously talented performers has several of their shows set up on a permanent basis in one lucky city; you guessed it, Las Vegas.

Around 1993 the first resident show of Las Vegas began — Mystere. If you hop on over to the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino you can see the first ever Cirque Du Soleil show to have its own theatre. The theme of the show is a mixture of myths from different cultures throughout the ages with fantastic ethnic music and surreal costumes that you can't take your eyes off. Of course the true attraction is the breath-taking performances which are a mixture of acrobatics, gymnastics, dance, opera, and comedy.

Naturally with this show being such a success, there had to be another and you would never believe how different it is! O, is an aquatic show which has underwater acts as well as acrobatics which take place high above a 1.5 million gallon tank of water! This of course means that apart from being fantastic athletes, all the performers need to be certified in SCUBA! This is one expensive production, and it takes place at the Bellagio.

Cirque du Soleil then opened up a cabaret style show called Zumanity in 2003 in the New-York New-York Hotel and Casino. The title of the show comes from a mix of the words "zoo" and "humanity", does that give you a hint as to what it's about? Well how about this tagline "the sensual side of Cirque du Soleil" — that should say it all. This show is definitely not one for the kiddies; it is full of performances that will dazzle you with their acrobatic skill and eroticism!

Cirque du Soleil just loves variations, creating new ideas for shows and the possibilities seem endless. In 2004 another fantastic show opened up, called Ka, this time in the MGM Grand. This show is different from all the others because it follows a Vegas-style production, having a storyline that is pretty easy to follow. The stage is something incredible being more like a series of moving platforms which go from horizontal to vertical with the performers on top. Naturally this made it the most expensive production to date, but hey, it's all worth it.

The most recent production of this fantastic company is a tribute to the Beatles and it is called most appropriately Love. The show is loosely based on the Beatles climb to fame and unlike any other Cirque du Soleil show has prerecorded music instead of live music. If you are a Beatles fan, then this is the perfect combination of great music and fantastic performers all rolled up in one neat package at the Mirage.

This athletic group undoubtedly dominates Vegas, but whichever show you choose, prepare to be blown away by the fabulous style and talent of the superb performances.
